Intro To MiXTapez

Ever since I used a TAPE to make Zaya’s Mix One when I first started listening to music, I’ve loved the idea of mixtapes.

The ability to play music for other people is truly a wonderful gift.  To evoke your feelings through song to give others a better understanding of what’s going on inside your head.  However, playing music has never been a talent of mine.  Mixtapes allow non-music creators to develop a certain emotion, or drive a certain sound, or point with music.  A second function for a mix tape was to combine all your favorite artists and songs into a one hour power session of your best music.  Before iTunes and the world of mp3s, this was how we got these things done.  A mix tape was the best way to listen to all your favorite songs in a row, with the least effort.  I shouldn’t say the least effort.  I’ll spend days coming up with the perfect blend of sounds that I want to appear on a mix tape.  Finding the exact order I want songs to appear on the album is a huge joy to me.  What comes from it, is a unique album that provides an hours entertainment, and a sampler of some truly awesome bands.

When my younger siblings started to get old enough to discover music, I put it upon myself to ensure that I supplied them with a well rounded view of music.  Because time is short and most people dont have time to sift through thousands of albums, I decided to create mixtapes for four of my younger siblings.  For some reason, Z’s ended up in their names to create what I call the Abz, Hanz, Libz, and Danz alphabetical mixes.  Starting with A-F, and slowly moving through my music collection over the course of a year, I created mixes specifically tailored to each of my four siblings.  They were based on one trait for each sibling, and artists in alphabetical order.

  • Abz Mix is more adult and obscure since she was the oldest at the time of their creation and already had lots of musical experience.
  • Hanz Mix is more of a dark, downer mix dealing with Hannah’s struggles of trying to fit in at a new high school.
  • Libz mix is the most spontaneous and happy, due to Libby’s strange carefree nature.
  • Danz mix is the heaviest because he’s a guy and I’m sexist, so I thought he’d be more receptive to angrier music.
  • Joez Mix is a new addition to the bunch. He is a close personal friend who requested that I start to make him some similar mixes. Just think, if you ask, you could receive a mix of your own! His mix is loosely focused on his current interests which involve various forms of alt metal and modern pop and EDM music.

While they were originally personalized for my siblings, I think that as a whole, the mixes are perfect for anyone looking for new music and I thought that this music blog would be an excellent place to share all of them.  I will start to slowly role them out as I build them through my new youtube page, to go along with this blog.  I wish that I could use all the versions I have on my laptop but because I suck with computers, you’ll have to settle for whatever version I can find on youtube (IF ANYONE HAS A KNACK FOR PUTTING UP MUSIC ON YOUTUBE AND WOULD LIKE TO HELP ME MAKE THE BEST VERSIONS OF THESE ALBUMS, PLEASE CONTACT ME).
